Pyre 03:44
[Verse] In the flames, I take shelter Hiding from what I am In the flames, I seek refuge A haven fit for me In the flames, None can touch me Alone but not lonely In the flames, Where none can see I found the place for me [Bridge] The skin, Melting slowly This blissful agony The shame, From all deeds Gone for eternity [Chorus] Now soaring high I am in the sky Ashes travel fast I'm alone at last Heaven could not see I will never be Motherless, Fatherless All will burn Flame Light the fire Flame Flame Smoke is rising Flames will cleanse you Fire Light the fire Fire Fire Smoke is rising Fire will set you free [Verse] All my life Fire caught me Showed me who I am Now I know, What's my purpose Dare you burn with me? [Chorus] Now soaring high We are in the sky Ashes travel fast We're alone at last Heaven will not see We could never be Motherless, Fatherless All shall burn Stoke the pyre Stoke the fucking pyre [Verse] In the flames, I will rest now And you by my side In the flames, Us together Warm for eternity In the flames, I take shelter Hiding from what I’ve done x2

Into Demise 04:01
[Verse] Bad idea to set fire to your dreams In my head all I hear is fucking screams A cavalcade with surgical precision The tribute of gold is paid in flesh Bleeding knees won't get you there On this ride to nowhere Let it sink in, but not too deep Never know what lurks beneath [Pre-chorus] Seen the world through eyes immoral (Immoral) Collecting for a greater force (Greater force) Harbinger, the die is cast (The die is cast) Sense the life once lost [CHORUS:] Spend some time where time is kept Figure out the human depth See the light where darkness glows Find astray when all is lost Listen to this tale of woe Have no fear but fear them all Listen to these words my friend, Never seen again (x2) [Verse:] Another time might be all that it takes Close your eyes before it awakes Pierce the veil, anomaly found It's not at all divine [Pre-chorus] Feel the plane with all it's quarrel (Feel the plane) Completion of a collected form (Completion) Harbinger, we die when cast (Die when cast) Sense the life once more [CHORUS] Spend some time where time is kept Figure out the human depth See the light where darkness glows Find astray when all is lost Listen to this tale of woe Have no fear but fear them all Listen to these words my friend, Never seen again [Outro] Spend some time with all your troubles Witness the great divine Faltering on a surface level How does it feel? We all rush to die We all rush to die Rush into demise Fucking rush to die!

The Storm 03:38
[Verse] I have seen perdition Felt I was sent on a mission Still I tread this path Full of liars, cheaters, whores The worst kind of scumbags Please, fill up the body bags Dig your own shallow graves Take the fall and be reborn [Pre-chorus] Dead hand Have lost the grip I hate the me I see in you [Chorus] Why do I sense you again? Why do I feel this pain? Time and time again I cannot refrain Wanted to do good But I never could Cursed right from the start With my blackened heart [Verse] Empty gaze Full of lies You taught me hate Time has come to set this straight (Time has come to set this straight) [Chorus] Why do I sense you again? Why do I feel this pain? Time and time again I cannot refrain Wanted to do good But I never could Cursed right from the start With my blackened heart I hate the me That I've always seen in you [Chorus Outro] Why have you come again? Only to bring me pain? Time and time again I will not be made… Whole! [End-Chorus] Wanted to do good But I never could Cursed right from the start With my blackened heart

We've been digging through cursed soil Without reward, our blood still boil A promise failed, from mouth divine Sent us forward, abhorrent lies "Carry onward, don't bend your back Stay on the fence, wait to attack" This is our world, Can we unite? Or stay unlit til the end of times? When the silence speaks, The mind trembles Searching for, What is not there Embrace the nothing Escape for a minute, Get stuck for a while This existence failed us, This world can wither and wilt [Chorus:] Was I inhuman? Or just inhumane? Have I reached the end? Embrace the nothing Am I even human? Or just someone's slave? Stay blind to the world, And embrace the nothing We've been drinking the poisoned water Still alive, we share the blame What is to be, whatever was? Have we even souls to sell? Spent some time where Death had stranded And within I found a friend Whispered lies, countless times I could not see that in the end... It's time to break free, Time to finally see And I have seen your virtues And I see you're all doomed to hell I will witness you fall, The end of it all And with the silence abound, Embrace the nothing [Chorus:] Was I inhuman? Or just inhumane? Have I reached the end? Embrace the nothing Am I even human? Or just someone's slave? Stay blind to the world, And embrace the nothing [Break:] The stream of lies, A thousand times From rotted lips They all spew forward Berate the truth, No longer found How does it feel to be divine? Your truth, Your word Your dying breath upon this earth Scorched flesh Flawed heart Have come to take what was never mine We've been digging through cursed soil Without reward, our blood still boil A promise failed, from mouth divine Sent us forward, abhorrent lies "Carry onward, don't bend your back Stay on the fence, wait to attack" This is our world, Can we unite? Or stay unlit til the end of times?

about

"Without any need for exaggerated solos or absurdly complex riffs, they are able to send their message simply, in good songs and without exiting the realm of Melodic Death Metal. Their particular style may be most easy to compare with early In Flames (hopefully these don’t present a similar sonic decay in the future) or mid-Hypocrisy, it is clearly Nordic and displays the talent of their country like almost any band from there.
With a voice that mostly brings it nearer to Death Metal than to lighter things, the drums are mostly basic but with some interesting fillings every now and then, while the guitar gets it all together in a harmonic yet hard way. Starting off with a dark intro, the first song may stick in your head and take some days to get out, “Pyre” is the clearest highlight from an EP with no filler songs."

"After the short intro “Embers”, the band tells a tale of finding solace in the flames with “Pyre”. [...] vocally there are two different tones that work together well. “The Storm” and “Embrace the Nothing” feature lots of good guitar work and double-bass drumming, providing no shortage of heaviness.
“Into Demise” is a catchy track with some synchronized rhythm guitars from Victor Lundblad and Rob Olsson. Around the 2:50 mark the song breaks into a strumming guitar riff that would fit right in on a Born Of Osiris record.
Overall this is a quality EP. Of course, coming from the land that practically invented melodeath means that these guys are in a crowded pool, and it will take a lot to make After Earth stand out. They’re not there yet, but given the short time that the band has existed I’d say they’re off to a good start."

"The first EP by Skövde's Metal export is a five-track release introduced by melodic instrumental 'Embers'. But once the last note has faded out, After Earth show what they are after. The following four tracks are defined by heavily grooving and melodic Death Metal. Tough riffs roll forward with ice cold movement. Partially, there are some Metalcore-like breaks in the Groove sphere.
The track 'Into Demise' ruffs with its versatility of styles and genres while always staying true to the Melodic Death Metal sound. Most outstanding are the guitar leads that add to the intense soundscape. Also, Marcus' growls and screams are often chanted in a very melodic way which pleases the ear.
After Earth's "Before it awakes" is a release that restores hope in Melodic Death Metal. I can imagine listeners of Nordic Folk Metal, Black Metal or Old School Death Metal enjoying this EP, too. Looking forward to seeing what this band is up to in the future."

"Late in this pandemic afflicted year, a volunteer rises from the middle of Southern Sweden in the form of AFTER EARTH with their own debut EP, "Before It Awakes", a Melodic Death metal dagger from the Scandinavian forge. Not quite eighteen minutes in all, and starting with eighty seconds of acoustic, the inherent fast burn of the EP leaves the listener wanting.
Once "Embers" finishes, things heat up with "Pyre", which goes to a few different places and uses quality production techniques to make an interesting albeit familiar sort of sound. "Into Demise" follows that up with similar studio trickery but not so much that it becomes a staple, and the drumming along with the rhythm guitar putting in serious work gives it enough magic to say it’s a potential hit.
The next track, "The Storm", is another of the more standard Melo-Death compositions but it, along with the end track, "Embrace The Nothing", still manages to bring a distinct heaviness that adds to the band’s oeuvre. The last track in particular, coming in on a heartbeat and exploring their production values even further, goes places not at a sprint but with a methodical velocity to it.
In the end, this is unlikely to break UGLY KID JOE’s record for debut EP sales, and when the first full-length album comes around, "Before It Awakes" might well be relegated to the dustbin of Heavy Metal. For now, however, AFTER EARTH has something to be proud of; getting this far, even three years after creation, is a major step for any band, and they’ve managed to set their best foot forward to do it. What the future has in store for them is largely theirs to decide"
